It takes real ambition to build a life as a small business owner or entrepreneur, and that ambition is often tested by competition with far larger enterprises. Meeting those challenges requires innovation, creativity, and solutions that stand apart.

At Tremont Sheldon P.C., we understand the resilience and resourcefulness that business success demands, and we want to support students who are pursuing ventures of their own.

To that end, the Emerging Entrepreneurs Scholarship offers a $1,000 award each semester to help one student cover educational expenses such as class materials, tuition, and room and board.

Qualifying for the Emerging Entrepreneurs Scholarship

All students interested in applying for the scholarship must meet our specific criteria:

  • You must be working for, operating, or planning to start a small business.
  • You must be enrolled at an accredited four-year college or university.
  • You must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above.
  • You must be a citizen of the United States.
  • You must be at least 17 years of age.

Essay Prompt

As part of the application process, we ask that students write a short essay in response to one of the following prompts in roughly 500 words:

Prompt A

Describe your involvement in a small business. What has the experience taught you about entrepreneurship in a competitive market?

Prompt B

Explain your motivations for opening a small business. What drives you to pursue these goals, and what do you hope to achieve?

As part of your application, we ask that you provide proof of enrollment in the form of an acceptance letter, unofficial transcript, or class schedule. These attachments should be uploaded in .docx or .pdf format.

Make sure to submit your materials by 11:59PM on MM/DD/YYYY.

Judging Criteria

Essay responses will be evaluated according to the following rubric:

  • Is your essay easy to read and free of grammatical errors?
  • Do you present a compelling narrative about your small business experiences?
  • Do you clearly describe your involvement with a small business?

Once the deadline has passed, it will take us approximately four weeks to review applications and select our winner.
